Place:
Whitchurch-Stouffville Town Offices, 111 Sandiford Dr.

Stop into the Town Offices on Sandiford Dr. and see the lush and lyrical mixed media paintings by Stouffville's own Vicky Talwar. Summer's Senses will  be on view until Thursday July 28. Vicky says of her work "Inspired by the colorful saris, festivals, and ritualized traditions from my South Asian heritage and experience living in both India and Canada, my paintings are an arrangement of tranquility and perplexity I find in the familiar. The sensuous, elegant, and stylish designs I create draw from both Indian and Pakistani textiles and cloths. My work offers unexpected juxtapositions that indicate dreamy subconscious relationships between memory, touch, smell and joy. The creamy layers of paint are frosted with glossy gels that heighten and preserve these moments in time. Traditional paisley designs and flower patterns are drawn from memories of rituals and experiences in India. Diffused into my backgrounds are layers of washes, blends, and folded melting planes, creating an abstraction as they freely float on the canvas. The varied consistencies reflect the textured conflict of my bi-cultural experience: My paintings float in time, without a beginning or an end, levitating on a bed of seclusion, bewilderment and nostalgia."
